Japanese interior design

The spectacular attractiveness of any home in Japan is to some extent due to it’s sparkling and organized look. Japanese interior design does not mean adding extra furniture in the rooms like most western house owners do. In comparison, a Japanese home seems almost empty and may be difficult to define because it comprises both the modern and traditional design.

Most Japanese homes include incalculable designs and style elements that are difficult to explain. There are quite a lot of principles that form general elements of Japanese interior design. They include;

Natural materials

Both modern and tradition Japanese interiors design are usually built with natural materials like woods, bamboo; rice straw marts, papers and silk.

Simplicity

The Japanese society values simplicity. In addition, any space in the room is as valuable as the design element. It is the custom of the Japanese to have uncluttered and decorated rooms.

Fusuma
These are Japanese sliding panels that are made of paper/cloth and wood. They are used across the whole wall for the rooms to be joined in flexible way. Some years back, Fusuma were painted using hands but nowadays, the method has improved and instead, they are patterned.

Shoji

These are screens from Japan, which are made with a wood frame and panes of transparent paper. They are used as rooms, windows and doors dividers. Shoji let natural light to enter the room and besides, provide privacy. They also provide flexibility in room configuration as Fusuma does.

These are just among the most common features to any interior design. They are popular in most houses in the entire Japanese society.[source]
